About Wiser Today
Wiser Today is a free morning newsletter about the products, services, and everyday decisions that affect your money, time, and safety.
We cover consumer news, recalls, scams, household fixes, and useful technology advice. We explain what changed, who it affects, and what’s worth doing about it.
The aim is to leave you with something more useful than a warning or a headline.
The details are the point
A recall doesn’t tell you much until you know whether it affects something you own. A deadline needs the requirements alongside it. A promising offer deserves a look at the conditions.
The Consumer Brief puts those details close to the news. We look for the dates, affected products, restrictions, and instructions that help you decide whether a story needs your attention.
When an important detail is missing from the information available to us, we say so. We’d rather point you to the full notice or the right provider than fill in an answer we don’t have.
Not everything unfamiliar is a scam
Some offers are fraudulent. Others are legitimate but come with costs or conditions that are easy to miss. And sometimes there isn’t enough information to make a judgment.
Scam or Legit? works through those distinctions. We describe the situation, explain what is known, and identify what would need checking before you act. When we use an illustrative example rather than a reported incident, we label it.
The point isn’t to make every message or website sound dangerous. It’s to help you recognize when something deserves a second look and find a sensible way to check it.
Useful advice isn’t always a warning
Everyday Fixes covers the less urgent things that can still save money, time, or an unnecessary purchase.
That might be a detail to check on the packaging, a setting to change, or a maintenance job to do before something stops working. We’re interested in advice specific enough to use, with an explanation of why it helps.
We also cover ways to make better use of the devices and services you already have. Not every problem needs a new product.
We show you where the information comes from
Wiser Today brings together published reporting, official alerts, recall notices, and practical guides. We summarize the useful parts and link to the source.
Those links matter. The full notice may include a product identifier you need to match. The guide may have instructions for your particular device. The original alert may explain a requirement that changes whether you qualify.
The brief helps you understand the issue. The source gives you somewhere to go when you need more detail.
Readers help shape the coverage
A confusing charge, a questionable message, or a service that works differently than advertised can be worth a closer look. So can a useful product that more people should know about.
We welcome reader tips at hello@wisertoday.com. Tell us what you encountered and what you think deserves attention.
There’s also a trivia question in each edition, with the answer at the bottom. Not everything in the email needs to be a task.
